We reach our bow stand and climb up and settle in. (Remember this is Troy we're hunting with. Hunting is the only time we can say he sat still.) Okay we're in. Shh! Be quiet! It's almost daylight. As we sit in silence, watching as God wakes up the woods, marveling at His handy work, we thank God for this opportunity to spend the morning out in his world.
In the middle of our silence we hear a slight noise out there somewhere and we spot big deer butt. So curiosity and excitement swell up Troy fumbles for his call, he slowly raises it to his mouth let out one grunt. Suddenly another buck runs out of the woods. He stops right in the perfect spot. He's couldn't pose for a more perfect shot. Troy knocks an arrow and pulls back his bow, takes a deep breath then slowly let's it out, then calmly lets his arrow fly. Imagine his surprise when instead of a nice "thunk" that a bow makes he hears a "boom" as watches his arrow turn and twist and totally twirl out of control and land just under his tree. It was then that he noticed the string that was attached to his buck call was snapped.
The buck that he had shot at never saw him. He just trotted of a few steps and stopped, looked back and then walked to Troy's tree stand. Troy pulled another arrow back ready to shoot and waited. The buck only needed to take one more step into the shooting lane... then turned and walked away with his tail up.
So Troy saw a nice buck he never got a shot at, he shot at a nice buck and never hit it. He had put his call back into his pocket and got ready to shoot. His call didn't make it all the way back into his pocket and when he knocked his arrow the rim of the call hooked on the arrow or string and shot out of his pocket when he shot it. So the only thing he killed was his faithful buck call.
So his eventful morning hunt turned out to be a little bit more funny to us than he'd like us to admit.
Thanks, Troy, for giving us a good laugh! (smile)

Funny. Guess he can't tease you too much about being a Kentuckian after that:) I'm asuming a new buck call is going to be on his Christmas list.
